What we collect

• Account details: your email, username, and anything optional you add such as a display name, bio, or pronouns. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk, so we never see or store your password.
• Sign in with Google (optional): if you choose it, Google shares your email address and basic profile with us, through Clerk, to create and access your account. You can use an email and password instead.
• Your content: your reading log, shelves, reviews, notes, and the people you follow.
• Your preferences: theme, layout, NSFW setting, and other personalization choices.
• Technical logs: standard request data such as timestamps, IP address, and browser user-agent, kept for security and debugging.

How we use it

We use your data to run the service: to build your library, calculate your stats, show your friends feed, keep your account secure, prevent abuse, and respond when you contact us.

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not show ads.

What others can see

Your reading activity, shelves, and profile are shown to other users only according to the visibility settings you choose. Your reading log is private unless you make it public, and account details like your email and settings are never shown to other users.

Who we share data with

We rely on a small number of service providers to operate the site:

• Clerk, for authentication and account-related emails.
• Cloudflare, for hosting and our database.
• When you import a fic by URL, that URL is sent to our own fetch service and, for some sources, to the third-party service FicHub, to retrieve the work’s public metadata. Your account information is not shared with them.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, and your browser’s local storage to remember preferences like your theme and layout. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

Your choices and rights

You stay in control of your data:

• View and update your account details and visibility settings at any time.
• Export your full reading log as a CSV (a Premium feature).
• Delete your account from your account settings, which removes your data.
• Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights. Contact us to exercise them.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is removed, though limited technical logs may persist briefly for security and abuse prevention.

Children

Headcanon Hub is not intended for anyone under 13, or under the minimum age required where you live. Mature and explicit content is hidden by default and is intended for adult users.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. We will update the date above when we do, and note significant changes where appropriate.
